The 2013 year’s MLK Day of Service will offer the opportunity for individuals, families and groups to serve together and to build a long-term relationship with the people to whom they are lending a hand.

Last year we partnered with AMEN Ministries to prepare the old Pasquotank County Jail to become a homeless shelter.  Our work helped to call attention to the homeless issue in our county and this year we will again partner with AMEN ministries to serve six families who now have a roof over their heads.  Our job will be to improve the quality of these homes with cleaning, pressure washing, interior painting, minor repairs and yard beautification.

We would also ask that you observe other opportunities to improve the property as an on-going project of your group or team i.e. roof repair, furniture, bedding, clothing, exterior painting etc.

This is a huge opportunity to be Christ’s hands and feet
in service to others in our community.

We will only have what you are able to supply.  Please bring with you cleaning supplies, hand tools, paint brushes, cash to purchase paint or garden flowers.

These six homes are currently the homes of folks who were homeless on MLK Day last year.  We will be cleaning, window washing, pressure washing, landscaping and painting some interior rooms and porches. Our goal is to serve both a specific family and to serve people on the entire block on which the family lives.  We hope to have the youth groups build a relationship with each tenant and perhaps come back in the spring and paint the exterior of their house.  We also want you to serve other residents on the entire block:  window washing, landscaping, trash removal, porch painting, etc.
